Today, I've spent time in the telephone with my friend. This friend of mind has a tradition
of calling instead of sending text message. She find it unnatural and unsocial to send text message when she can call and hear the voice of the person. And she has a good point there. I really like to believe she is right! She followed and she stick on her own tradition and not follow the modern practices such as sending text messages that bewildered her in the first place. She said it is too difficult, too impersonal.
She called up on my good, old land telephone line, and we speak and laugh and enjoying just like the good old days. And when she feels for communicating a friend outside the city or the country, she said, she will send postcard or a letter. Very personal, traditional and romantic. A system she is used to and is planning to continue until she dies. She said.
A system she can rely on and is happy about. It really works for her. She found the perfect structure that gives her a perfect peace. I was thinking, that if it really works perfectly for her, why can't it work for me?
This question leads me further into my "think-box".
This question leads me further into my "think-box".
It is important to develop the technology but it doesn't mean that the new technology works for all people and make people happy. Certain people like my friend is happy in her own little corner of the world, a perfect world for her as long as she could reach her friends, which she does, through her old handy telephone, and as long as she can send letters the traditional way with postage-stamps on. She is contented.
This is for me something to reflect on !
