My own tips on home-nursing.
You as nurse is an important person for the patient.
You as nurse is an important person for the patient.
You mean a lot for them and most patients are thankful for your help.
And when they are not, don't judge them, it could be the sickness that makes
them react like they are not thankful and not being contented of the care given to them.

Govern your temper and do something with your attitude.
Always do some reflections for yourself so you can achieve some peace
and sound mind after work and become more fit and can do better job next time.
Nursing is not an easy task, but it is worth doing.

Some of the patient like you or may not like you at all.
Think that this is but natural, not everybody on the street that you meet will like you either
The chemistry between two people matters.
The patient will for that matter not be open to you and will not tell,
She/he might have reasons why, maybe afraid or not trusting you.
Maybe thinking of being an extra burden for you.
Maybe underestimating her situations thinking she could manage to do things herself
without any help.
Many other reasons.
Bear with the patients.
it is but a part of the whole nursing profession.
You will meet people at different phases, stages of life
and patients from different lands with different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
The nursing concepts and practice may differ from country to country.
Patients are individuals and may have different reasons for being and doing
things in response to nursing.
The language is an important factor that makes nursing a difficult thing to do.
A person's way to communicate.
The custom, belief and traditions matter too.
Most patients are cooperating but some are not for one reason or another.
Bear with it, and do something to be able to do your job.
To do a good nursing you have to know
or strive to know about patient's background history. His sickness, diagnoses, medicines,
his interests, his work at younger age and in the later years.
Research. It is your duty to discover.
And you must observe a secrecy discipline.

The non-verbal communication.
Your body-language tell more than words, think that the patient may or
can, read the non-verbal communication that you convey.
An ideal and right practice.
An ideal and right practice.
Upon entering the door at patients homes make it a habit
to take-off your jacket.
Then put on the protective plastic blue things around your shoes.
This to show respect and to protect the floor and yourself.

Take a deep breath and wear a smile.
Greet with a pleasing tone in your voice.
Now you are ready for your patient.
Go and greet and ask how is he/she today.
Show enthusiasm, look at them in the eyes.
See to it that you are at the same level when you speak to the patient.
Old patients have reduced function and some disability in their senses.
So speak clearly and slowly so he/she may be able to get every word you said.
Observations.
In meeting and communication with patient, you are observing and mentally registering
observations that help make your nursing job effective.
It is now at the very moment that you can get some important clues about the patient's
psychological, physical, mental, and spiritual status.
Listen, for she/he will tell her story. Show interest.
Make them feel you have all time in the world for her (even if this is not the case)
Govern your body language.
When you know it is time for you to go, then speak so you sound
reasonable, friendly and diplomatic.
Train how to speak in front of the mirror. Be aware of your own voice.
Haste leads to less speed. (in norwegian- Hastverk er lastverk)
By taking it easy, you will be more focused and get things done that way,
thus gaining more time,

Believe me!
Challenges.
Challenges.
No day is the same...at home nursing.
New patients and new addresses to deal with.
New patients and new addresses to deal with.
Challenges may come and go.
The traffic, the washing machine, the relative or the neighbor that is noisy and nosy.
The barking pet dog, the cats, the allergy issues.
You will deal with all these, gracefully and professionally.
Unpleasant situations.

Unpleasant situations.
You will, also be a witness for some unpleasant and unexpected situations out there.
Be prepared for this.
Learn to be predictable in some unpredictable times.
Learn to be predictable in some unpredictable times.
And, sometimes, you will with the key in your hand
be amazed to see, upon entering the house, some unpleasant sight
of a sudden heart or brain seizure.
I have been experiencing all these.
And acted properly upon the situation.

An unconscious person.
Or a cold-lifeless body on the chair.

Know what to do.
Your mobile-phone is an essential tool.
And see to it that your job mobile-phone is fully charged
and works properly. Your own mobile-phone can be a great help too.
See to it that you have the updated telephone list of key-persons in the office
and the emergency.
Job at home-nursing is versatile.

from one house-to the next, short and long distances,

And you will be dealing with several types of car.
At my job, I am driving four kinds or brands, the fifth one is electric car.
And I drive a lot as part of my job.
Giving me the feeling of being free, going places
so i get my training in driving to become a better driver too.
Breathing fresh-air.

It is priceless for me.

Energizing job.
My work doesn't tap me for energy,
it is giving me energy instead. For i love my job.
Sometimes you have to offer, but you will get plenty
in return. It is a matter of giving, so you will get something back.
And I've learned that it is better to give than to receive.
It is the law of the universe.
A secret dream.

Nursing is but a secret-dream of mine.
That i could have studied nursing earlier in my life, but never got the chance.
To become a doctor was one time a dream when I was a teen-ager.
I'm happy I'm not. It is not the same.

Find what you want in life.
It's always helpful to hear good nursing tips. I find that, as a male nurse, a lot of people don't understand what it is we do! I hate to say it but doctors would be blind without nurses watching their patients for them. It's an important job. Also, nurses can greatly influence the patient's attitude which is essential to a speedy recovery.
