Part 2 - My life ( before and after I became a nurse)

Then I was assigned another place, still under the same organization. I then worked for 6 months as an environment worker for the elderly. It was really fun for me, for then I was able to use other skills like singing and thus contributed something for the social activities at the senior center. The time I spent together with others and the elderly was valuable and meaningful for me. The center was a part of home nursing with a different function and was operating independently. In the middle of my term as environment worker, I received the message that I was accepted as nursing student....

I have tried to enter the nursing school the first time in 1999, via NAV (Work department) and the Bergen Community office, but failure.
Yes ! I exclaimed, at long last ! Now, I can start to think as a nursing student.

The new life has begun.
Then I needed to go into a compromise by stepping down from 100% position to 50% in order to cope up the school. It was very tough. My economic life was getting tougher and it had to continue like that from 2011 until my graduation in spring 2015.
With the help of my son who have given me “scholarship” arrangement for  kr.1000 a month  for a period of 4 years, my rigid economic life was sort of maintained. Receiving 1000 kroner worth of money every month from my son was the most valuable thing that happen in my life as student, without his help, I certainly couldn’t make it. Making ends meet was a strange word and every end of the month, I was constantly broke.
Every beginning of the month , comes the money from my son into my account. It has never failed. For without it, I have not been able to make it. My son had also in between, gave a lot of money for other maintenance and for food.
As a student, I had to work on week-ends, breaking the system of having only to work every 3rd weekend.  I had no choice. I needed the money at the same time I knew I needed to have time to read or to rest. It was that difficult. I had to work in between my schoolwork in week-ends and weekdays.

It was hard to be a worker and a nursing student at the same time.
Now after a 4 year of study. After spending four years on countless sleep-less nights and poor economy, poor social life, job-shifts and school books, lectures and job practices…I am now FREE ! It is that wonderful!
